Newmont welcomes the first female Chief Metallurgist, Margaret Aniawu-Asumakah, to the Africa Business Unit. From her early days as a young engineer to now leading a dynamic team at the world’s top gold-producing company, Margaret’s path is marked by resilience, determination, and grit.
Starting out with the dream of becoming a pilot, she shifted gears towards engineering after overcoming struggles with math in her early days in school. Margaret excelled in her studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, and subsequently took on challenging roles at AngloGold Ashanti and Chirano.
Now at Newmont’s Ahafo North Project, she oversees the operations of the metallurgist team and provides technical support to the project team on all aspects of mineral processing.
Let’s celebrate her journey as a professional setting higher standards in the mining industry and as a woman breaking barriers in STEM!
