ABC News has responded to claims made in an anonymous “whistleblower” affidavit alleging close collaboration between the network and Kamala Harris’s team prior to her presidential debate against Donald Trump.
The unverified document, notarized on September 9, has stirred controversy after going viral online. It accuses ABC News of providing Harris with debate questions in advance and agreeing to preconditions that would give her an advantage over former President Trump.
The affidavit was allegedly written by a male staffer who claims to have worked at ABC News for about ten years, during which time he observed what he described as increasingly problematic reporting practices. The document, dated a day before Kamala Harris’s debate against Donald Trump, came after many viewed her performance as a win for the vice president.
The staffer also claimed to have sent the affidavit to House Speaker Mike Johnson.
In response, ABC News issued a statement, saying: “ABC News followed the debate guidelines agreed upon by both campaigns, which clearly stated that no topics or questions would be shared in advance with the campaigns or candidates.”
