Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has reportedly refused to pay Kylian Mbappé almost £50 million in unpaid wages, despite being ordered to do so by the French football governing body, the LFP. The club was instructed to pay the forward missing bonuses and wages accumulated over his seven-year stint at PSG, but they have stated they will not comply with the ruling.
The dispute reportedly began following Mbappé’s acrimonious departure from PSG earlier in the summer, with questions surrounding whether he would leave on a free transfer. The club and the player have been in conflict over his salary, including loyalty bonuses written into his 2022 contract extension.
PSG claims that Mbappé’s legal team proposed an agreement in August 2023 to reduce his bonuses by €55 million for the 2023-24 season, but the agreement was never formalized or sent to the league. PSG has cited a verbal agreement between Mbappé and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, which the club claims was the reason the proposal was not signed.
Despite this, the LFP’s legal commission has ruled in Mbappé’s favor, ordering PSG to pay the full amount owed. However, PSG has refused to follow through, insisting the case must be contested in another legal venue, where they plan to present all the facts in the coming months. The dispute remains unresolved, with Mbappé having contacted UEFA over the issue, and the forward now playing for Real Madrid following his departure from PSG earlier in the summer.
